About Us
ArtatWork Studios was 'born' in 2001 when my niece came to live with me.
The public school system was not working for her. I needed to find a way to be home
with her and still support us. Then, a friend of mine- who was also a veteran home school
mom- asked me to give her daughter a voice lesson. As soon as the lesson was over, God
called me to teach.  I realised this was something I enjoyed and would enable me to stay
home with Heather. I quit my corporate job and started offering art classes. Soon after, a
few moms found out I had attended college for English and asked if I would also offer
Literature & Grammar. What started out as 2 students then turned into a rotating group of
100 kids! Sometimes we have more teens than younger kids, sometimes vice versa.
My philosophy is- learning can be fun and should be fun.
My niece has since graduated- as have many of my first year's students. I now have my
own 'biological' children who I look forward to educating at home.

My classes are not designed to replace the home school experience. I am here to offer
help to families who feel unsure of their ability in a certain field or subject- or who just
need a little extra help in one area or another.

What ArtatWork Studios is Not-
We are not a co-op.
I greatly appreciate it when moms offer to help tidy up, plan events, or chaperon field
trips, but it is not a requirement in order for your children to take classes. I do teach with
a couple of co ops, and they are a wonderful asset to the home school community.
Parents are welcome to 'drop off' and run errands during class, but I will need a contact
cell phone number in case of emergencies.

We are not a babysitting service.
We will have fun in the classes, but the #1 priority is to learn.  I believe kids- especially
younger kids- learn better when they feel at ease and are made to feel confident. I try to
find ways to explain the material in terms they can understand, while at the same time
build their overall comprehension. I do not believe in negative reinforcement.

We are not exclusive.
I am a Christian. I encourage the Christian faith in all people and in our society. I do not
discriminate against those of other faiths and feel the best way to reach non-Christians is
to set a Christian example.
People of all faiths are welcome to join us in classes and activities. However, the students
are expected to dress and act appropriately & respectfully- regardless of religious
affiliation.

What ArtatWork Studios IS-
We are a group of people dedicated to learning!
I believe children are smarter than society gives them credit for.
I believe they want to learn and be inspired!
Education does not have to be boring; it is an adventure.
Even as adults, we should never stop engaging ourselves in academic pursuits.
Your children will enjoy learning in my classes. They will be encouraged to share their
views and opinions with other students.
