8th-9th Grammar & Essay
Grammar can be tricky! We will use an awesome workbook and in class activities to help students understand what can often be a difficult subject.  We will also work on building correct word usage knowledge and vocabulary skills. Students will learn how to write an essay from notes to outline to rough draft to final product! They will learn the step by step plan they need to write well & efficiently. We’ll also work on descriptive writing as well as the many different styles of writing. This is a great class for your upcoming high school student! I believe in encouraging students who are having trouble and helping them
past any ‘grammar/writing hurtles’ they may have.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
$10 supply fee- workbook is compiled of many different worksheets & activities.

8th-9th Lit & Language Arts
In this class, we will focus on building our understanding and comprehension of literature. We will work mostly with novels but will include poetry, short stories, and plays in our studies in order to have a well rounded sampling of literary genre. This is a fun, upbeat class where students are encouraged to form and share opinions about the works they are studying.

Writing Power 3rd/4th-7th
Writing is the nemesis of many students, but it does not need to be!  In this class, your child will learn how to
break down the process of writing in easy, manageable steps. They will learn how to organize their thoughts and put words to paper through a series of fun and upbeat activities.  This is a great class for your
struggling or reluctant writer! We will build confidence and help your child to realize writing isn’t so bad after all!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Two, one subject notebooks and a folder with pockets and prongs. Lots of pencils!

American Literature

10th & Up

This is an excellent literature class for your high school student! We will discuss these great works of literature and learn how to write an analytical MLA style paper.

Artist's Hour

Ages 9 & up

This class is great for those who already have had some previous art training or have shown an interest in art but have never taken a class.

More advanced artists may join us as well- I will adjust projects for students who have had more instruction.

In order to introduce your child to several aspects of studio art, We’ll be working with a variety of media including: pencil, color pencil, watercolor pencil, charcoal, oil pastel, acrylic paint, watercolor paint, & oil paint.Students will learn a variety of techniques including: Composition, Layout
& Design, Shading, Quartering, How to use color, Blending, & more. This is a technique based class- not project based- so your child will learn "how to draw what he sees" versus "how to draw a tree". This style of teaching gives the child the tools they need to continue their art studies without being confined to the ‘one way’ to do things. We will incorporate a few 'project' lessons into our weekly activities as well though.
This is a very upbeat class! Your child will be encouraged & challenged; but never told what they are creating is ‘wrong’ as art is in the eye of the beholder.
