My child is 7, but the class is for ages 8-12. Can he still participate?
The age guidelines are not set in stone. You know best if your child is capable of doing the
work in a specified class. If you think your child would enjoy something, but the age listed
does not fit with your child's age- please contact me! I will be happy to give you more
information on what the class entails. Some of my best students have been younger than the
age guideline- and exceeded their peers of the 'correct' age!
My child is 14, but the class is for ages 8-12. Can he still participate?
Again the age guidelines are not set in stone. All children learn at a different pace. If you
think your older child needs extra help in a particular area, and they are not bothered by
being with younger students, they are welcome to join us. Contact me and I will be happy
to help you figure out where their needs will best be met.
My child is a special needs child. Can he still participate?
I welcome all children to attend. I have had several children with special needs attend our
classes, and we have always had a great time learning together. If a parent needs to stay in
the class with the child, that is absolutely fine! Parents are welcome to attend any of their
children's classes (as long as space allows).
Do we have to be taking classes to participate in the field trips?
The field trips are open to all home school students. You don't have to be taking classes to
participate.
Are family discounts for immediate family only, or can I include distant relatives?
The family discounts are for immediate family members or those living/staying with the
family participating. The discount would also apply to friends who are visiting from out of
town and staying with the student's family.
How do the payment plans work? Are there any requirements for participating in a
payment plan?
The payment plans are available to everyone.
Payments may be made in quarterly, monthly or weekly increments. All payment plans
must be paid for with Post Dated checks. Checks may be made out for whichever dates are
preferable to the parents, as long as the payments are completed by the end of each session.
All checks must be made out to ArtatWork Studios or Christy Wilcox.
What if my child misses a class? Will I get a refund?
Refunds cannot be given unless it is before the 14 days before class starts deadline, or if the
class is canceled completely by Mrs. Christy. If you are going to miss more than one class in
a row, and you let me know 1 week in advance, you can receive a gift certificate for the
missed portion of classes- minus supplies already purchased.
All gift certificate requests must be made in writing.
What happens in I don't show up for a tutoring appointment?
Please let me know at least 24 hours in advance if you are not going to be able to make your
tutoring appointment. If you must cancel the day of tutoring, please make sure you
personally speak with me so I will know you are not coming. If you send me an email the
morning of the tutor, I will not receive it in time.
After two 'no shows', you will be charged 50% of the tutoring fee the next time it happens.
Are these classes accredited?
The classes are for additional education purposes, and are not accredited by the state of
Georgia. They are not designed to replace your at home learning, but to enrich the programs
you already have in place. The classes are there to help families who may feel they need
extra help in a particular subject and to give the students a 'classroom' atmosphere. Many
parents count the class (after a full year) as a 'credit' though because of the material covered.
Upon request, I will be happy to type up a transcript of the work covered for your records.
Will you seek accreditation?
I have considered seeking accreditation from ACIS. At this time they are merging with GAC
and have recommended waiting until Fall to get started so as not to get lost in the shuffle. It
is something I will sontinue to look into- please keep checking back!
Are you CPR certified?
I am fully certified in infant, child, and adult CPR. As well as certified in medication
dispensing.
What qualifies you to teach my child? Are you a certified teacher?
I am not a certified teacher. I home schooled my niece (who has since graduated) and found
my calling to teach!
I attended Brewton Parker college and received an Associates degree in Art History (with
enough hours for a BA, but one was not offered there), and I have a BA in English pending
from BPC- I have over 280 quarter hours of instruction, however there is one class- a Bible as
Literature class- which I am lacking. Unfortunately, I have not been unable to go back to south
Ga to take this class, and the college has not decided if they are going to let my other credits
suffice. I also have a BA in Studio Art PLE from Trinity college. If you have any hesitation
about sending your kids to me, I suggest sitting in on a class. Parents are always welcome to
join us or come to me with any questions they may have!
I feel I do the best job I possibly can sharing what I know with the kids. I am a self proclaimed
'nerd' and have studied a wide variety of subjects. I was a college senior by my 3rd year due to
overloading my class roster in able to get in as many classes as possible!
I believe we should always keep learning- and be willing to share our knowledge with others.
Please see my About Me page if you would like to know more about me.
