| Writing Skills 8th & Up 11:00-11:55 In this class, students will learn the process of writing. Each of the six weeks will focus on mastering another step in the writing process. We will start with Creative Writing to get your child comfortable with putting their thoughts on paper. I will not count off for spelling errors during this six weeks, because I want the children to focus on finding their voice. Students will learn how to write descriptively and clearly. In the 2nd six weeks, we will learn more of the formal techniques one needs when writing a formated paper. We will study outlining, note taking, information gathering, and planning. During the 3rd six weeks, we will start with our first formal essays. Students will learn how to write a thesis statement and its purpose. Students will learn how to write a three paragraph opinion essay and a three paragraph informative essay using the information they have learned in the two previous classes. The 4th and 5th six weeks will focus on the more advanced styles of writing. First, students will learn how to write five paragraph persuasive and argumentative papers. For the last six weeks, students will learn how to write an MLA paper (including quotes and reference). This is an excellent class for any child who needs to improve their writing abilities! Each step is broken into manageable 'chunks' of information. |
